Ferrochrome nitride, also known as ferro chrome nitride or nitrided ferro chrome, is a type of ferroalloy material primarily composed of nitrides like CrN, Cr2N, and Fe4N. It can also produce compound nitrides, (Cr, Fe)2N(1-x). The main factors influencing its composition are the nitriding medium and temperature. Ferrochrome nitride is primarily used in the production of corrosion-resistant and other nitrogen-containing steel.

Applications of Ferrochrome Nitride: Ferrochrome nitride is extensively utilized in electric furnaces and oxygen converters for smelting nitrogen-bearing steel. As an alloy material, it plays a crucial role in the production of special steel, including stainless steel, heat-resistant steel, corrosion-resistant steel, and alloy steel. Nitrogen, as an austenite-forming element, is added to chromium-manganese and chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel to compensate for the lack of nickel. Research indicates that nitrogen’s role in expanding the austenite region is about 30 times that of nickel. Adding nitrogen to nickel-containing austenitic stainless steel production can partially replace precious metal nickel, yielding economic benefits while maintaining high strength, corrosion resistance, and steel’s plasticity.

 

China and India are the largest producers of nitrogen-containing corrosion-resistant steel, accounting for 10% of global steel production, and approximately 20% in Asia.
